About OIE Conferences

Event Information
The Office for Institutional Equity (OIE) was established in October 2019 to provide institutional leadership in fostering an inclusive, equitable, and anti-racist environment at the University of East London (UEL). Committed to embedding equity across all facets of university life, OIE works to set and enhance best practices, deliver impactful learning initiatives, and provide strategic support in creating a truly inclusive culture. Our institutional equity strategy is built upon four guiding principles: fostering inclusivity, promoting success, enhancing belonging, and championing equitable culture and practice.

In 2021, we launched our cross-sector conference series, a pioneering initiative designed to bring together leaders, practitioners, and changemakers to share best practices, develop tangible strategies, and drive meaningful change. Since its inception, the conference has grown exponentially, attracting a diverse range of participants and thought leaders from across sectors.

Each year, our conferences have tackled critical issues shaping equity and inclusion, from our inaugural event in 2021 to the landmark ‘Social Mobility: Cracking the Concrete Ceiling’ (2023) and ‘Inclusion in Action: Sharing Best Practices’ (2024). These gatherings have provided hundreds of attendees with thought-provoking discussions, innovative solutions, and actionable insights, making a real impact in fostering a culture of inclusion.

This year, we are taking our conference series to the next level, addressing a topic that is more relevant than ever in today’s social and political climate. With ongoing discussions in Parliament about making Ethnicity Pay Gap (EPG) reporting a mandatory requirement for organisations, this year’s conference will provide a crucial platform to explore the implications of such legislation and how organisations can proactively prepare. We believe this year’s theme will spark vital conversations, inspire progressive action, and continue to set the benchmark for driving institutional and societal change.

Join us as we bring together visionary leaders, experts, and change agents to shape the future of equity, diversity, and inclusion. Be part of the movement—be part of the change.
